Dear Agentware Reader:
New readers of my Linkedin Posts and this Substack newsletter are expressing interest in how I came to view “agentware”, my term for a new AI-powered generation of software, as the next big disruptive force for knowledge workers in all enterprises.
The short answer is that the “agentware” stack includes multimodal generative AI capabilities which can perform knowledge work — the kind that involves creating, managing, and disseminating information and knowledge across multiple formats.
This isn’t just about automating routine tasks; it's about integrating and synthesizing text, visuals, audio, and interactive media in a way that was previously unachievable. Such AI capabilities enable the generation of comprehensive reports, engaging multimedia presentations, and even creative content like artwork or music, all by understanding and processing diverse data types seamlessly.
The potential of "agentware" lies in its ability to analyze vast datasets to uncover insights, automate and enhance productivity, and provide data-driven recommendations, revolutionizing the way knowledge work is conducted across industries.
This transformative technology is set to redefine professional landscapes, making it the next big disruptive force for knowledge workers everywhere. For example:
Research and Development (R&D): Enhancing the speed and depth of research activities by synthesizing information from various sources, including scientific papers, patents, and experimental data.

Dear Reader:
This is a defining moment in humanity’s evolution, and ‘AGENTWARE: Unveiling AI's Future – Humanity's Bold Leap into Tomorrow’ captures this pivotal point, heralding the dawn of a new era driven by artificial intelligence. Within this decade, superintelligence will be accessible to everyone, reshaping our existence as a digitally augmented species.
As Steve Jobs famously said, “you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future”. Reflecting on my career in the ever-evolving landscape of technology and business transformation, I find a story both enlightening and humbling. 'AGENTWARE' is born from this synthesis of over three decades of experiences, enriched by my in-depth research into the field of AI.
My journey in technology, beginning with a fascination for coding and a deep interest in the human psyche, was influenced by my family's resilience in starting anew in Canada and my father's entrepreneurial and innovative spirit. These experiences have shaped my perspective, echoing Einstein's assertion about the importance of believing whether we live in a friendly or hostile universe. This belief underpins the narrative of 'AGENTWARE', exploring how our perceptions shape our interactions with emerging technologies.
Beginning with an initial interest in scientific research, chemistry, and the medical field, my career naturally evolved into business and technology. My deep curiosity about organizational dynamics and passion for process engineering led me to spearhead knowledge management and technology-driven reengineering projects at major consulting firms and oversee large-scale data governance and business intelligence transformations at a major bank. Working closely with industry leaders, I’ve witnessed firsthand the influence of corporate performance incentives that led to investments into technologies to enrich people’s work experiences and productivity, as well as strategic responses that led to restructuring, realignment, and rightsizing. Business is ultimately personal — as we humans participate in the business world, we bring our inner stories, expectations, experiences, fears, hopes and dreams. I bring these nuanced insights to 'AGENTWARE'.
Throughout my career, my motivation has remained constant: to make a positive difference in the world. This force is at the heart of 'AGENTWARE', demonstrating through its characters and plot how technology, guided by human empathy and foresight, can change lives for the better. 'AGENTWARE' is more than a fictional story; it’s a reflection of my lifelong dedication to learning and responsible innovation.
In 'AGENTWARE', I aim to share a journey that intertwines technological advancement with a commitment to societal good and ethical responsibility. The narrative of Ana Patel at MarketSphere weaves together threads from my own experiences, highlighting the human element amid technological evolution.
To be direct, my objective in writing ‘AGENTWARE’ with a futuristic business lens on the impact of AI on society, is to provoke readers to ponder the long-term implications of AI on employment and the future of work. Will AI lead to job displacement, or will it create new types of jobs? How does this technological shift affect the traditional notions of career paths and employee development? What will it feel like when we treat our AI assistants as digital co-workers, even as they become superintelligent? How will ‘they’ treat us?

AI can be a technical subject; I’ve included my research of these real world technologies and strived to make the content accessible to all readers. I’ve explored the big questions that arise as we compare human (biological) intelligence to artificial (silicon-based) intelligence. I hope this story provokes, enlightens, educates, and even concerns you.
I invite you to envision a future where human creativity and AI coalesce. I believe in a friendly universe, in our collective ability to navigate the challenges ahead to harness AI's potential. May this book be a catalyst for optimism and inspiration as we boldly step into this new era. Finally, a comment about our time and how this book came to be. Beginning with my experience of people, process, technology and deep AI research, the inspiration of ‘agentware’ as a new form of digital labor technology was the foundation. Layering the impact on humanity and the future of work in a fictional view of the future was challenge. With my core ideas about characters and roles, I used ChatGPT as a world class editor and helpful brainstorming partner throughout the writing process. I take full responsibility for the final content.
I believe every human is a creator, and 'AGENTWARE' is my artistic contribution to this moment of inflection in humanity's evolution. Just as we stand at the threshold of a new era with AI, this book marks a personal and global journey into the unknown, full of potential and promise.
